In this 3 part series, we look at one of Vietnam’s most viable exports, ca phe or coffee as we know it. Being coffee’s second largest exporter in the world (behind Brazil), Vietnam has become truly synonymous with these aromatic beans that people all over the world have come to love.

In Vietnam though, it’s not just about diversities of fragrances and flavors that coffee brings to the table. It’s practically a way of life that millions have grown accustomed to – and more so in Saigon. Cafés can be found at almost every corner in Saigon, each bearing its own flavours, uniqueness, and taste,

In this series, we take you to the cafés most popularly known for their magnificent views.

33 Tang Café (33rd Floor Café)
37, Ton Duc Thang str., Dist.1, HCMC

Being situated on the highest floor of the building, you can practically savour the splendour of the whole city with a coffee in hand. The long Saigon River, Saigon’s complicated traffic streets, and the developing District 2 area all sit on the left hand side of the café. And to the right, you are greeted by a gorgeous landscape consisting of Rex Hotel, Lam Son Square, etc. And when night falls and the city lights up, the café transform itself into a setting perfect for lovers. With drink prices from just 10USD onwards, it’s a great way to enjoy Saigon from a 360 degrees perspective.

iBox Café
135 Hai Ba Trung Dist.1, HCMC

The iBox café is a unique, ‘old Western’ inspired Café with aristocratic décor. From its furniture to the art pieces hanging proudly on each wall, everything is pieced together like a perfect work of art. 2 words encapsulate the distinctive charm that exudes from this café, ‘Beauty’ and ‘Romance’. And with fairly affordable drink prices ranging from VND35000 to VND55000, coupled with a truly exquisite atmosphere, it’s not hard to be seduced into making the iBox café your regular hangout. Recommended drink: Four Season cocktail.

La Fenêtre de Soleil (Sun Window)
2nd Floor, 135 Le Thanh Ton str., Dist. 1, HCMC

Owned by popular Japanese fashion designer, Takayuki Sawamura, this café is a hidden gem tucked away neatly in a beautiful corner in Saigon. Located in an apartment block with a rickety staircase, everything changes when you get up to the second floor. Described as the ‘haven’ for advertising professionals, many swear by this joint to help inspire their creativity. You would not expect to find an old iron bed with a mosquito-net and a table made from a rust window sitting comfortably as neighbours in a café, but when they all come together, the whole setting is magically transformed. Opened during office hours from 1130 to 1900.
